Polyurethane: Properties and Applications

Polyurethane is a versatile material that often replaces traditional rubber due to its unique properties. It offers improved durability and functionality, making it suitable for many applications where rubber was previously the dominant solution.

Polyurethane has several key properties:

Strong Adhesion

Polyurethane adheres well to metal, plastic, and other materials. It is often used as a coating on rollers in machinery, such as printing presses, to ensure durability and functionality.

Elastic and Dimensionally Stable

The material can range from soft and elastic to hard and dimensionally stable. Polyurethane has low “settling” and maintains its shape even under load. It performs well over a wide temperature range, from -40°C to +80°C.

Durable and cushioning

Polyurethane is resistant to mechanical wear and dampens shocks, sound, and vibrations. This makes it suitable for demanding environments.

High Chemical Resistance and Weather Resistance

The material withstands solvents, oils, and gasoline, and has good resistance to UV radiation and other weather influences. Therefore, it is useful for both indoor and outdoor applications.
